Schauspielerin Uschi Glas hat den Verein gemeinsam mit ihrem Ehemann, dem Unternehmensberater Dieter Hermann, und dem Münchener Rechtsanwalt Dr. Harald Mosler im Jahr 2009 gegründet. Anfangs als Münchner Initiative geplant, weitete sich das Engagement aufgrund der hohen Nachfrage und Bedürftigkeit in den nachfolgenden Jahren deutschlandweit aus.
