FLY & HELP: Ruanda
The boosted project, the primary school Musasa, is about 40 driving minutes away from Ruhengery, the capital of the northern province of Ruanda. Currently, 2,059 pupils attend the EP Musasa. Lessons are held by 22 teachers. Even for the big pupil number for Ruandan circumstances, the EP Musasa only has deficient and too few classrooms and cannot offer an appropriate learning environment. The existing classrooms already are very decrepit. Additionally, the school is limited in its extension due to its hillside situation and prone to erosion or water damages due to the big rainfalls in Ruanda, especially during rainy seasons. An old classroom block will be disrupted and a new block with three classrooms including the equipment will be built. By building classrooms appropriate to the new school building standards, the existing space on the ground of the EP Musasa will be used better, the capacity will be increased and the quality of the classrooms will be improved. To ensure the water supply, a rain water cistern of 10m³ will be installed. Besides the use as a water tank, an uncontrolled flow of the rainfalls on the roof, what usually can lead to erosion and water damages on buildings, will be circumvented.
