Artemed Foundation
The Artemed Foundation supports people in Namibia, Brazil and Myanmar having no access to medical care. It especially boosts for children, like for example in Tsumeb, Namibia, where misery, poverty and harm prevail. The nun Leoni and her colleagues thus brought a broad care programme into being, especially providing food, drugs and other support for AIDS orphans. A container village has been raised, having developed quickly into a stable help institution in the region. Besides a soup kitchen for deprived children, there also exists a pharmacy container for the distribution of drugs to people in need. The numbers concerning AIDS in Namibia are alarming: every fifth person between the age of 15 and 49 years of the two million people living in the country in the south of Africa, are infected with HIV. Almost 50,000 childrne lost their mother, father or even both due to AIDS. More than half of the new HIV infections affects people under 25 years. To make matters worse, only 10% of the ill inhabitants get the life prolonging drugs.
