In 1989, kinderherzen was founded by doctors and parents of cardiac children. The main aim of the association, which is funded via donations, is to improve therapy possibilities for cardiac children worldwide. Therefore, the association is active all over Germany and internationally and works in a transparent, independent way. Wherever small patients are born, they should get the chance to live an unburdened life. kinderherzen especially advocates for research and better surgery and therapy possibilities and only supports projects with visibile funding gaps that are not mainly funded by the public authorities, health funds or hospital operators.
