Help for the soul: protection and play areas in refugee camps
Bakaa in Lebanon and Zaatari in Jordan are only some of the refugee camps that developed into new homes for Syrian children and their families during the civil war. Children suffering from the experiences of flight and war often have nightmares, they are frightened to go to school as they saw when they school in Syria was attacked and some even stopped speaking. In the protection and play areas, traumatized girls and boys get the possibility to play and to learn and if they need, they get psychological assistance. Football contributes to trauma coping and boosts the solidarity, both between the refugee children as well as with home-grown children and youths.
